Signalman Cyril Mutimer

British Army paybook of 6011849 Private Cyril Mutimer, Essex Regiment.

Cyril Mutimer joined the Essex Regiment on the 29th April, 1936. He arrived in France with the BEF on the 16th September 1939 as a motorcycle despatch rider.
He was evacuated from Dunkirk on the 30th May 1940 suffering from shell shock. After a long period of rehabilitation, he transferred to the Royal Corps of Signals in May, 1941. However, the ordeal of the fighting in France was to continue to haunt him and eventually in August 1942, he received a medical discharge, suffering from acute depression.
