Maginot Internal Fixtures and Fittings


Sign from a casemate. This was the main sign from the generator room of a casemate. This indicated the minimum levels of the oil and diesel required in the event of an attack.

Sign from a casemate. This was located in the generator room of a casemate. It was for the purpose of keeping an active watch on the state of the oil and diesel supplies.

Insulated food box. The forts had two central kitchens; one was for the troops and the other for the officers. The fort crews were billeted around the entire fortress and as such could be, in the larger forts, as far as 2km from the kitchens. These containers were used in order to transport the food.

Telephone box cover. This was removed from the Gros Ouvrage Schoenenbourg in the 1950's when the fort was repaired following WW2.
