This was one of the pre-production examples of the Fw189 undergoing operational evaluation with this unit. During an observation sortie between Ernage and Orbais, this aircraft was attacked by Hurricanes of 79 Squadron flown by P/O Parker, P/O Clift and Sgt Cartwright. It crashed at 8.30pm near Ramilies-Offus, south-west of Hannut, Belgium. The crew of three, Lt K Seehase, Uffz H Schmitz and Gefr H Kaven were all killed in the crash. Sgt Cartwright was shot down shortly afterwards by a Bf109 of JG27 flown by Oberleutnant Redlich. Having survived the crash landing, he would subsequently become an ace, before being shot down and killed over the English Channel on the 4th July 1940.

The few relics we have obtained consist of what appears to be a release lever of some description, a piece of harness and a couple of airframe components.
