Pte. Llewellyn Joynes of the Cheshire Regiment

The 2nd and 4th Battalions were machine gun units attached to the 1st Corps and 1st Division, BEF. They fought in Belgium and France, with the units actively engaged in the defence of both Hazebrouck and the Dunkirk perimeter. In fact Pte. Joynes survived the battle, but was captured and spent the rest of the war in Stalag 357 at Oerbke (near Fallingbostel), as PoW Number 15087.


Army Form B104 – 83 Missing in Action.

This document, sent to the next of kin, advises that Pte. Llewellyn Joynes of the Cheshire Regiment was reported as being "Missing in Action" between the 21st and the 30th May 1940.
