Crossing the Line Certificate to Leslie John Alford from HMS Exeter 11th January 1937. Although Leslie Alford does not appear on the crew list at the time of the Battle of the River Plate, one of the signatories to the certificate, Chief Mechanician Joseph A Rooksey certainly was present. He was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal (DSM) in recognition of his outstanding work to jettison the ship's burning aircraft from the catapult platform.
