The 8eme Cuirassiers

 Insignia of the 8eme Cuirassiers8e Cuirassiers – This was the first Allied unit to cross the border into Belgium on the 10th May, 1940 as part of the 2nd DLM. The unit was prominent in the Battle of Hannut, a successful action which delayed the German advance through Belgium. Eventually they were forced back to the Belgian and French coasts, with a major part of the unit being cut off and surrounded in the Dunkirk pocket. They were forced to abandon their Panhard 178 armoured cars along the Dunkirk-Ostend road.
