The French media of this period very much expressed the polarized politics of France as a whole. The newspapers of the time could be simply described as either falling into the right or left (often in the more extreme) areas of the political spectrum.
There was also a strong tradition of periodical magazines in France; something which was also present in the United Kingdom, although on a lesser scale. The gallery below offers a view of our collection of some of these titles. The subjects covered in these publications range from fashion to major world events, a fact reflected in the choice of the cover subjects. Paris Match, for example, was widely respected and often cited globally.
