The small ship (which I was on) finally left Dunkirk on Thursday morning, finally arriving at Margate in the afternoon. I had no boots and (was) still soaked. Single decker buses, were awaiting us on the quayside. There we were taken to the Margate railway station. It was such a wonderful sight to see the W.V.S. giving out cups of tea, and sandwiches, and everyone got a postcard to send to their wives, or mothers, free of postage. We eventually got aboard a train, still wet, and travelled through the night, to a place called Shrivenham near Swindon. It was an O.T.C. centre.
