An improvement on the Stokes Mortar adopted in 1918, the Stokes-Brandt mortar was a drop-firing armament used by the auxiliary company of an infantry battalion. It was a light, powerful and simple to use. The variable angle of fire allowed for great precision and flexibility of use.
Transported on a cart or divided into three parts of about 20kg each and carried by the crew over short distances, it allowed for the rapid repositioning of the mortar while providing infantry support.
The bomb of the 81mm was similar to that of the 60mm, but longer and with the fuse adapted to the calibre. The 81mm mortar came with a shoulder pad and gloves with steel mesh palms.
