The RGD-33 was designed by Degtyarev and introduced in 1933. It comprised three parts and was only fully assembled prior to being taken into combat. It is classed as an anti-personnel defensive grenade, by virtue of its additional fragmentation sleeve.
The RDG-33 was developed to replace the obsolete M1914 and contained 85 grams of TNT. It was, however, complex and expensive to produce and due to the component parts being transported separately, likewise proved too time-consuming to assemble, if not actually use.
