Card number 23442, issued on the 18th April, 1940 by the Assistant Provost Marshall, General Headquarters, Captain W. Field Robinson.
2nd Lieutenant Webster was granted a Regular Army Emergency Commission on 3rd January, 1940 before being posted to join the BEF in April. The Royal Army Service Corps was responsible for the supply of food, petrol, fuel and hospital supplies and the transport of these commodities, plus the transport of ammunition and engineers' stores.
We are currently researching the history of this officer. We have been able to verify that he was posted missing in France on casualty list No. 24 issued on 3rd of July ,1940. However, he is then recorded on casualty list No. 265 as "no longer missing". It is difficult to be certain, but the dates imply that he was one of the rear-echelon troops still in France after the fall of Dunkirk and that he would have been evacuated from Western France during Operation Ariel towards the end of June, 1940. He survived the war and was promoted to the rank of Captain during 1943.
