Dunkirk (1958) was a British-made film. Directed by Leslie Norman (father of the film critic Barry Norman), it featured an all-star cast which reads like a Who's Who of the British silver screen of the period. The plot centred around the roles of the little ships and a squad of British troops separated from their regiment. Filming of the beach scenes took place at Camber Sands in East Sussex.
The film has a running time of 134 minutes, which saw the vast narrative compressed to a point whereby much of the story is reduced to passing mention.
