These containers are not insulated; while they formed part of the equipment of a field kitchen, they were intended to provide transport and storage for either the raw coffee beans or the processed grounds. Abandoned in France, it could have been as the result of direct attack on the mobile kitchen, left behind in the haste to move onwards, or simply discarded due to expending its contents.
